Linkin Park- Crawling

This song is very powerful and a bit screamy, like he is panicking in the chorus. He has a major fear thats 'crawling' in his skin, which means this fear is really agitating him and making him nervous and insecure. He also mentions that the 'walls are closing in' on him which means this fear is suffocating him and making him alone. His fear is beneath the surface which could mean that he hides it from other people, making him extremely insecure about him. It is mentally 'confusing' him as to what's real and what isn't, which is making him panic even more. The backing track sounds haunting which is a representation of how he is feeling.

Coldplay - Paradise

This song is so awesome! I think it's about a girl whos life is not panning out how she wants it to be as she has grown up, as 'she expected the world and it flew away from her reach'. It's as if she has let her dream fly away as it seems impossible to achieve. In the 'stormy night she closed her eyes' which means that the stormy night represents her life which isn't satisfying her and weighs her down; and when she goes to sleep is when her dream comes alive and her 'heavy' normal life is left in reality as the dream, the 'paradise' comes to life in her sleep. The background music is slow and light when her normal life is being talked about, bur when her dream comes alive, the music livens up and the veat becomes stronger like a lot of people are there. This could represent her paradise, as the music comes alive. This could remind people that their dream is still achievable with a strong mind and determination. Paradise is the representation of the dream.

Paramore- Ignorance

This song is about a man in her life that is constantly accusing her of doing things that she hasn't done or without proof, showing his ignorance of her and other people. She asks 'Where's your gavel, your jury, what's my offence this time?' which is a rhetorical question, showing that he is always accusing her of things, this is also reflected in the line 'you swear it's all my fault'. His ignorance is shown in the lines 'we're not the same' and 'Ignorance is your new best friend' as his ignorance towards what she has to say is evident, and she was his best friend but ignorance has taken over. She also feels that he treats her like a kid but she can 'fend for myself' now she has figured out his tricks that 'once fooled' her. This song has a rebellious streak as the music sounds rebellious and she is going against what he is saying.

The Verve- Bittersweet Symphony

I think that this song is about 2 things really. The first thing is about mans obsession with money. The line 'you're a slave to money then you die' suggests that life revolves around money as that is what decides how well off you are and what you can get with it. We have jobs to get money don't we? We aim to get as much as we can. The second thing that this song is about is the fact that we can't change who we are, but people can influence. The line 'cos i'm a million different people from one day to the next' sums up that we are heavily influenced by people around us and pick up some of their traits via learning. He 'can't change my mold' which means that can't change what he has been moulded into. This song may be from the 90's but it's a classic in my opinion.

All Time Low- Sick Little Games

This song is all about the effect that the media has on society and people. He is 'turned on by the tabloids' which means that he is heavily influenced by the media and what other people think of him. It goes on about the fact that he really wants to be famous and would do anything to achieve his goals, and goes on about how hes thinks hes following the same path as stereotypical hollywood people by inheriting the characteristics and habits of then and 'losing it all' (his identity) to the media, the 'sick little games' that is the main topic of this song, the media. It has made him become a 'shadow of who i'm supposed to be' as fame has gotten to his head and he needs to get away from it. He talks about his thought process before he was famous, and how nervous he was. His thoughts were 'If I play my cards right, I could make the big time. I could be a reason to stare. Caught up in the spotlight, Shaking from the stage fright. How did I end up here?', which shows that he regrets letting fame get to his head. The main beat of this song is rock concert- esque which reflects the whole meaning of the song, about fame and getting appreciated. I like this song as a lot of people are influenced a lot by what other people think of them, and this song teaches them to just be themselves.

Muse - Starlight

This song is so gripping! The tune is minimalistic yet rocky, but the piano tune is what holds the song together as it is the most memorable part. As for the lyrics, they are very cryptic yet so powerful! It is one of those songs which you interpret as you please. My interptetation of this song is of someone chasing after a dream, which is the 'ship' of the song, be it a relationship with someone or a lifelong ambition. This hope is what is taking them away from what they have in front of them, such as a family who love them and 'care if they live or die' i.e care about them. The 'Starlight' is the representation of this dream that they will always chase even though the know it may not happen to them or be worth it. They just want to be able to hold on to the dream for once (I just wanted to hold
you in my arms). Another key line in this song, 'Our hopes and expectations, Black holes and revelations' suggests that not everything will pan out to be what you expect it to be, and you will stumble across obstacles and unexpected situations, which are the 'revelations'. The songs lyrics can be a bit cryptic and confusing, but if you really listen to them, you will see a meaning in them that you can relate to and/or understand.

Linkin Park - Numb

This song is a classic! It is on Linkin Park's Meteora album which was released in 2003. I personally think that this song is about breaking away from being forced to live up to a controlling persons expectations, and forgetting about who you are. Those expectations could be anything to do with society and peer pressure in the world we live in today, or a controlling person, such as a family member or friend. This song inspires you to 'Numb' yourself to controlling people and haters and just be confident in yourself and be true to who you are. This song has a strong gripping rocky beat to it and you can just relax and listen to the lyrics.  I like this song because it is inspiring and I never get bored of it.
